The habit of wearing the engagement and wedding ring in a certain manner is different in every region of the world, depending on the beliefs and preferences. The only thing that is the same all over the world is that the promise of belonging to a person, the devotion and the promise of fidelity and being there in sick and health is symbolized by these rings; the circles representing perfection and never-ending, since there is no beginning, no ending and no corners. It’s also similar the fact that the rings are placed on the ring finger. But on which one, because there are two ring fingers?

The ring finger is the one which is next to the pinky and the fourth counting from the thumb. The tradition of wearing the rings on the left hand comes from the Romans, who said that a vein is connecting this finger with the heart directly. Also, this finger is thought to be the closest to the heart. Contrary with this belief, the Latin tradition states that the rings has to be worn on the right hand, since the word left means “sinister”. These beliefs seems to matter even nowadays, despite of the fact that feeling are coming from the heart is not true. But it’s great that these simple “rules” have such a strong meaning!

If you decided on which finger will you wear the rings, you should also consider if you want to wear them on the same finger or not. Usually, they are worn on the same finger, the first one being the wedding ring and then the engagement ring. It can also be reverse, but this order was established since in the case you are doing messy work, it’s preferable to take off your engagement ring and if this it’s the first one placed on your finger, you will have to take off the wedding ring as well (wedding rings are usually gold band, therefore it’s not necessary to take it off in case of messy work).

As you can notice , there are various choices on how to wear the rings. There is no right or wrong wear. Depending on your faith , aspirations and wish, I know that you will make the right choice!
